One of the Panhandle’s most important assets is our workforce. Rising early, working hard, and staying until the job is done is ingrained in our culture. Our workforce knows that hard work and perseverance is the key to economic prosperity. TCD knows that success is achieved through cooperation.

TCD also knows that a resource as precious as a qualified workforce doesn’t just happen. It requires continued development. One of our tenets is to identify and keep our local talent. TCD strives to engage the public workforce system, community college, public schools, and businesses in a regular dialogue to identify needed skills and how curriculums can be tied to those needs.

Career Readiness Begins in our High Schools

In our region, career readiness begins in our secondary schools. Scottsbluff High School is a Wall-to-Wall Career Academy School. This means all students participate in Career Academies as part of their high school experience in order to be able to transition seamlessly from high school to college, tech school, or the workforce with the certifications needed to meet community and industry demands. Likewise, Gering High School has Career Pathways to offer students a way to discover the relevance of their selected school courses to actual occupations, and allow flexibility and informed choices in the career decision-making process.

Western Nebraska Community College Supports Workforce Development

To help support the workforce throughout the Panhandle, our local community college, Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC), partners with area businesses, industries, and agencies and provides them with customized workplace training. Whether it be in manufacturing, business technologies, leadership, computer skills, regulatory compliance, or something highly specialized, WNCC is ready to assist.
