Become a Community Ambassador and Welcome New Residents to Western Nebraska

    July 21, 2026

Trusted Community Development (TCD) is thrilled to announce its Community Ambassador program, a volunteer opportunity to help new residents make friends, find organizations, and use resources in the region. The program will pair new arrivals with current residents who have similar interests, backgrounds, or life stages.

For example, a new mom might be paired with an ambassador with a toddler so she can find mommy-and-me groups and potential daycares. A new arrival who likes hiking could be paired with someone who can show them their favorite trails and hiking spots.

“People may move to a community for a job, but they stay because of relationships and connections,” says Jordan Diedrich, Executive Director of TCD. “Western Nebraska has incredible people, organizations, and opportunities. This program is about making sure new residents feel welcomed, connected, and part of the community from day one.”

Individuals interested in becoming a Community Ambassador can email Diedrich at jdiedrich@tcdne.org for more information. The Community Ambassadors Program will officially start in November 2026, and TCD will eventually publish a sign-up form online.

    Community Ambassadors Serve as Connectors

While this is a great opportunity to make new friends with people arriving in the area, the Community Ambassadors can provide value through their introductions and recommendations. This includes sharing networking and interest groups, like the local young professionals organization, or helping new arrivals find local healthcare providers or dentists. Ambassadors can also help by answering questions, such as the best areas to celebrate Halloween in their communities.

Volunteering as a Community Ambassador shouldn’t be a major time commitment. Think of this program as an opportunity to make a new friend who you can help out with your local expertise.

“This program is about building relationships and helping people find a sense of belonging,” says Diedrich. “We want people moving to Western Nebraska to know they already have someone here ready to welcome them.”

People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to participate. TCD is hoping to have a diverse team of Community Ambassadors that reflects the people who live here. Young professionals, retirees, families, business leaders, service club members, outdoor enthusiasts, and others passionate about their community are welcome to sign up.

This program is also open to the entire Western Nebraska community.

Community Ambassadors Can Make Newcomers Feel at Home

Moving to a new city is challenging for anyone, whether they are arriving alone or traveling as a family. Many people struggle to make friends in adulthood, even without leaving their social group to start again in a new state. This initiative is designed to provide a lifeline so new residents have someone to hang out with or to receive support from, while also identifying other paths to make friends.

The Community Ambassador program can also benefit residents by creating opportunities for them to meet people and attend events. If you are looking to grow your social group or try new things, this could be a fun volunteer option for you.

The Program Highlights the Strengths of Western Nebraska

Western Nebraska is a wonderful place to live. It has stunning natural vistas and offers safe neighborhoods for families. Our region is also known for its friendly people and welcoming communities. This program is an opportunity to showcase how inviting Western Nebraska can be.

A positive first impression, where new arrivals make friends and join local groups, could encourage people to stay in Western Nebraska for longer. Talent attraction brought them here, but these personal efforts (like building friendships and fostering a sense of belonging) can have a bigger impact on talent retention than most people realize.

Reach Out With Questions or to Participate

TCD is preparing to formally launch the Community Ambassadors program later this year, but it is currently meeting with interested participants to learn about their hobbies and lifestyles. Feel free to reach out to TCD or email Diedrich directly at jdiedrich@tcdne.org if you are interested in participating.

Because this is a new program, TCD is happy to accept feedback on how it can improve and adjust the processes in a way that makes sense. We’re happy to have you on board! Join the community ambassador program today.

    Testimonials

“Having the resources available with the eCenter has allowed us to grow our business in ways that wouldn’t have been possible by ourselves. It has been awesome connecting with other entrepreneurs in the eCenter business community.“

    – Josh Curtis, owner of Clarity Financial

“Living the good life at Northfield Apartments. Independent living with all the yard work and apartment maintenance provided. The advantage of Northfield Park being close for those walks with our four-legged friends. All apartments are one level and laundry facilities are provided. I have lived at Northfield Apartments four years and am pleased with my choice of independent living in the Gering area.”

    - Pat Kimberley

"Our TCD Northfield Apartment is very nice! Mike and Hever were amazingly attentive and helped orient us to the entire facility. We appreciate the new appliances, the bright clean bathrooms, new carpet, ceiling fans, and the views of the monument to the west! We have really enjoyed the privacy of this little community, yet also appreciated the opportunity to meet new neighbors. This is a great place to live!"

    - Monty and Cheryl Reisig, residents since May 2021

“Almost two years ago we downsized from a three-story house that we lived in for 34 years. We then moved into a newly renovated apartment at the Northfield Apartments. It is the best decision we have ever made. TCD offers maintenance-free living with very nice people and quality management.”

    - Doug and Deanna Keszler
